Biography

Kristine Woods works from affect and intellect, inextricably. Current work focuses on abstract sculptures (hand felted wool and papier-mâché), serial weavings, and drawing. Each piece is evidence and explanation: they must be built in order to be considered. Recent shows include Regarding & Regardless, a solo show at Virginia Commonwealth University (2018); The Portrait is Political at BRIC (2019); and Such Is, a solo exhibition at Janice Guy, Mbnb (2019). Woods spent the fall of 2018 in residency at Textilsetur Islands (Blonduos, Iceland), and is a recipient of a Creative Capital Artists Grant. Kristine woods earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is full time faculty at The Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work will be included in a two person presentation by Geary in New Art Dealers Alliance’s inaugural Chicago Invitational, and she will have her first solo exhibition at the gallery, both in September 2019.
